We are proud Parents

Son brought home his report card today. It was highly anticipated since the school started a new policy that did not record the grades from their first grading cycle. They called it the Readiness Period, a time for kids to get introduced to new topics for the year. The first official grades on his report card for the second grade:

95 Reading
93 English
96 Spelling
90 Mathematics
S Science/Health
S Social Studies
S Physical Education
I Handwriting

I can't blame the handwriting because I have the same problem of my hand can't write as fast as brain sends information. Of course I can't tell him that. He has to try to write neater.

He still has to improve on working independently, listening attentively and completing and returning homework, but with all A's, it has been hard for hubby and me to sternly discuss it with him. The 'omission' of homework assignments was discussed in a recent Parent-Teacher Conference recently, so there was no surprise. Imagine his grades if he had actually completed that additional work.

We have been grinning all evening. Hubby even gave me kudos for helping son to get to this point. That was nice too.

It's great to go to bed smiling even though you are exhausted.

Nite, Nite

  1. Hello there! {waves}

I am sure that you are thrilled about your child's progress.

Handwriting can improve and there are many ways that you can encourage your child to practice more at home by putting a dry erase board on the fridge for your child to write the grocery list or the week's schedule, and putting up a lined easel pad in your child's room that has adhesive on the back so one sheet can be torn off each day and put on the wall. It will remind your child to practice (be careful about those markets that will bleed through the paper though!!)

    Peace, blessings and DUNAMIS!

  2. I can think of no better reason for you and hubby to grin....kudos and props to you for supporting and encouraging your son; as well as congrats to your son for his commitment and effort.

Moments like that are a great source of family pride.

  3. I have terrible penmanship. I do remember that was one class my parents never made a fuss about considering I wrote just like my dad.
